For the past eighteen months on the outskirts of Leeds, Nadia Sidebottom has been running her popular online dog boutique from a beautiful cedar garden room.
After starting the business eight years ago, she’d begun to outgrow her base in the spare bedroom. Though Nadia did consider finding a workspace out of the home, ultimately, she went for an option with an easier commute. A garden room turned out to be the ideal solution to allow Nadia to expand the business and enjoy a measure of home/work separation, all while not having to waste time heading back and forth from a warehouse.
Of course, a garden room is a significant investment and Nadia and her family wanted to be sure they were choosing the right company to build it. Not only were they keen to work with a local business, they also wanted to be confident that the team would do the best by them and their new garden room. As soon as Gary and Ellen came to quote, Nadia felt like they’d found the right people. Not only did they believe that Gary and the team would ensure the new space would be built meticulously, they also felt reassured that they would remain on hand to offer support should anything go wrong in the lifetime of the garden room.
When things got started, Nadia was on site every day of the build. She was incredibly impressed with Gary, his team and their work process. This was no prefabricated room: the team worked step by step to build the garden room by hand, exactly to Nadia’s requirements. Not only was everything carried out to an incredibly high level, the team were also excellent at communicating. They explained and confirmed every decision at every stage of the process.
In what felt like no time at all, Nadia’s 6m by 4m garden room was up and running. For the first time in the lifetime of her business, she was able to get up in the morning and leave the house to go to work. Though her commute was blissfully short, Nadia still got into the habit of packing a bag each morning to go down the garden, which helped her develop a really healthy working routine.
Nadia considers the garden room her best ever investment, not just for the business but also for the look of their garden and the value of their home. The garden room is an absolutely beautiful place to work that really brings the outside in. It blends perfectly into the look of the garden, as if it’s always been there. And it’s not just the look of the garden room that’s hard to beat; it’s also the functionality. The space is really warm and cosy, even in winter. With just one radiator, Nadia stays snug inside the garden room even when it’s pouring with rain outside.
After twenty years in their home, the time is now right for Nadia and her family to move on. This winter they’re leaving Leeds in order to experience a more rural lifestyle. Through the process of selling their home, they’ve been pleasantly surprised by how much the garden room has added to the value. In just a year and a half, they’ve doubled their initial investment.
In fact, Nadia says her only regret is that it’s not possible to pick up the garden room with a crane and take it with them to their new home! All is not lost, though, as Nadia and her family are already investigating whether it’ll be possible for Gary and the team to build another garden room over at their new place. And why wouldn’t they want to repeat the experience? After all, as Nadia herself says, ‘Knowing the quality that’s goes into Horto garden rooms, I can’t rate them highly enough.’
